WhoMe

me short 1215

I am your next and last editor.

I have always been interested in fiction, both the reading and writing. The first short story I can recall writing was back in 1978 when I broke a bone in my foot and couldn’t play outside. It was a mystery called “The Bortons Have A Mystery”. You can see my creative juices at work even then. I wrote my first novel in 1987, with a second following soon after, at which point I was hooked.

Since then I have written hundreds of short stories, from just 50 to 25000 words, and more than 20 novels, most of which I never submitted for publication as I was already too interested in the NEXT story/character. I’ve also written a handful of radio, TV and film scripts. These days I’m trying to take a little more care with my words, and while still writing new stories (shorts and novels), I’m also delving into my past to resuscitate my favourite oldies.

As for ‘training’… outside of life, which remains the biggest and best teacher, I enrolled on a correspondence writing course in the late eighties and had a couple of short stories and articles published, and in the mid-to-late nineties graduated from the University of Derby with a BA Hons in Experience of Writing with Literature. In the noughties I was fortunate to chance upon a very creative and supportive (but now sadly defunct) writing and critique circle online, which re-inspired my post-degree funk, and published a few things, and nominated one of my stories for the Pushcart Prize.

My main area of interest is everyday people and their trials and tribulations, often with an element of unreal added to the mix. But such is life. I hope you enjoy anything of mine you read/buy. Please feel free to visit my blog or contact me/keep in touch via Facebook or Twitter. I look forward to hearing from you.
